LUSH: First Impressions

If there is one brand besides the typical drugstore, Sephora and department store brands that is absolutely raved about by beauty bloggers, it's LUSH Cosmetics! I had never heard of it until I started reading beauty blogs and following beauty vloggers on YouTube. In fact, I also noticed around this time that there is a section in my local Macy's cosmetics department at the mall.

After researching the cult-favorites for over a year now, I finally tried out some of the products. The sales woman took me around showing me all the favorites ranging from skincare to haircare to bath products. They even have a makeup line too, but if I'm honest, I'm not really interested in any of it.

Tarte 'the stand outs' limited-edition kit

Tarte 'the stand outs' limited-edition best-sellers kit

This Tarte kit retails for $24 and is such an amazing deal! Since it was a gift I gave to my sister for Christmas, I was able to try everything out myself before she left to fly back to where she lives. I was SO impressed by this kit! I've always been a Tarte fan, having owned a shade of the LipSurgence, Maracuja sets, and the Lights, Camera, Lashes mascara.

I'm back!

After a BUSY semester at school to kick off my senior year, I'm finally on my winter break with time that I've been able to dedicate to revamping the design of my blog.  I changed the color scheme and created a logo of my own on Adobe InDesign, which I learned in my PR publications course this fall.

While it's hard to know what spring semester will bring, my class schedule allows me some extra time to get my blog back up-and-running. I will be planning out my posts in advance and publish 2-3x/week to start out. I'll be focusing on beauty, while also having occasional fashion-related posts (hauls, sales, coupon codes, etc), travel, health/food and intern advice posts --- the areas I would consider myself to be pretty savvy in! ;)

I am very open-minded to the direction of this blog, but without my readers, it will not become anything at all! Please feel free to ask questions, give your suggestions/opinions and request posts.

Wish me luck! xx

The 10 Most Common Causes For Breakouts

Ever since I was in middle school, I've always struggled with acne. Thankfully, makeup over the years hasn't made me too self-conscious about it, but I do envy those with naturally perfect, glowing skin. Breaking out more recently made me curious as to what the main causes are and therefore what I should change to prevent future breakouts.

After quite a bit of research, here are the top 10 most common causes for breakouts (in no particular order):

Bath & Body Works Fall Candle Haul

After watching endless YouTube raves, blog reviews, and Instagram pictures, I finally went to Bath & Body Works to buy some of their seasonal candles. They were 2/$20, a steal because each candle normally is $19.50. Even better, each additional candle was $10. Therefore, it was 2/$20, 3/$30, 4/$40, etc. I had a coupon too that my roommate gave me that was on the bottom of a receipt for $10 off. To sum it all up, I got 4 amazing new candles of the large 3-wick size for $30. Awesome.

It was a tough decision for sure, but I'm extremely pleased with the candles I decided to purchase.

Always Remember 9/11

I am lucky enough to have visited the World Trade Center the summer before 9/11 and the beautiful Memorial this summer in NYC. Always remember those who sacrificed their life for our country and those who were tragically in the wrong place at the wrong time. Live life knowing that yours could be cut short at any given moment. Tell your family and friends that you love them, appreciate them and thank them. The worst feeling is not getting to say your last words to someone, so instead of waiting for tragedy, make the most of each moment now. ♥

UPDATED Favorite Online Shopping Sites!

Let me start off by saying that I have an online shopping addiction. Seriously, every day on my computer I go to many of these sites to see what new items they have. Though, with my college student budget, I don't end up buying half of what I originally put in my shopping cart. These sites- some strictly online, some are boutiques, others found at the mall- have on-trend, affordable inventory that I highly recommend checking out!

Fall Ulta/TJ Maxx Haul

I could say Fall is my favorite season, for I do love the pumpkin craze (frappuccinos, candles, etc.), but unfortunately being in the middle of Florida, we don't really see (or feel) the seasons. In fact, I have NEVER once in my 21 years of life seen Fall leaves. Call me deprived? Yes...but I do get to go to the beach on Christmas if I want to! My day will come to see Fall leaves...and to see snow for the first time! I'm graduating in May and most likely moving back up to NYC. You better believe I will be in Central Park taking in the Fall beauty as often as I can!!

Favorite Beauty Gurus: Part 3

If you've been following me for a while, then you are probably familiar with my 'Favorite Beauty Gurus' series: Part 1 & Part 2. It's about that time for an updated list of more beauty bloggers/YouTubers I follow and LOVE!
  • Annie Jaffrey
    • Twitter:
    • Blog:
    • Annie is by far one of my absolute favorites to date! She lives in NYC, has a Swiss background, and is a very healthy and happy girl. I admire her a lot. Her blog is just as impressive as her channel, so definitely check out both. She just seems very genuine and sincere, which I think is something not everyone can portray immediately online. She has a great sense of city style and enjoys sharing healthy recipes to help other girls be happy with their bodies.
  • Ingrid (Miss Glamorazzi)
    • Twitter:
    • Facebook: here
    • Ingrid is fun to watch due to her peppy personality. She's silly but has great taste in fashion, jewelry, and makeup of course. She's one of the few YouTubers that I've followed who admits to having very oily skin, something that I share with her. Watching her videos will brighten your day, so check out her channel linked above!
  • Rachel Talbott (Check In The Mirror)
    • Twitter:
    • Facebook: here
    • Blog:
    • When you watch Rachel's videos, you can only imagine how incredibly sweet and genuine she is. She has experience in the industry and brings forth her knowledge for staying healthy and maintaining good skin. She updates her blog very frequently and is a part of my list of what to browse before going to sleep each night! She also includes fashion/OOTDs into her videos and blog, as well as relationship advice.
  • Nikki Phillippi
    • Twitter:
    • Facebook: here
    • Blog:
    • Nikki is good friends with many of the other gurus such as Rachel and Ingrid in this post. She has such an amazing sense of humor and is also very genuine like Rachel. She is unique to YouTube I think due to her background and is very down-to-earth. She also has many blog posts and videos about staying healthy, eating well, and overall taking care of your skin. She suffered with acne in the past and has shared her stories to overcome and maintain better skin. She's also awesome to follow on Instagram, so check her out there too!
Make sure you check out all of these beauty gurus! Who are your favorites?

xx, Ariana

Fall 2012: What's Trending?

It's Fall 2012 and for me that means it's my SENIOR YEAR! Going to school in Orlando, FL and growing up in South Florida, I've never truly experienced the Fall season with colored leaves and cooler weather.  However, it doesn't mean that us Floridians don't follow Fall fashion trends! The only difference for us is that we combine the Summer and Fall trends to make our outfits accommodate the hot weather.

Most Worn Summer 2012 Tag!

As school is started up again and summer is coming to a close, this tag has been extremely popular in the blogging/YouTube world. After watching Charley's (Athens With Love - definitely check her out, such a sweet and genuine beauty vlogger) video, I decided to forward the tag! This summer for me wasn't the typical, at home in FL going to the beach every day and drinking daquiris by the pool. It was quite the opposite actually, because I was in NYC for a 10-week internship! My typical summer beauty habits focused on moisturizers with SPF, powder foundation and waterproof mascara, quickly changed to working city girl beauty necessities.

Beauty Inspiration: Blake Lively

When you think of your favorite celebrity style/beauty guru, who is it? For me it is hands down Blake Lively or Lauren Conrad.  For this post, I'll be focusing on the bronzed, glowing goddess that is Blake Lively! It comes as no surprise that I'm a huge Gossip Girl fan, but I also have done a little research on her red carpet looks and watched various YouTube tutorials modeled after Blake.

End of Summer Sephora Haul

Being that this is my last week in NYC, I decided to go on a bit of a Sephora shopping spree after resisting the temptation every day in passing it on my walk to my internship. The products that I bought are products I have been eyeing all summer long and are loved by many of the beauty bloggers I follow.

Makeup Geek Haul

As I mentioned in my last post, I recently have been running out of some of my essential makeup products. In searching for the best products for the best price (I'm on an intern budget after all), I decided to purchase a few products from Make Up Geek! I've been a loyal follower of her YouTube channel for almost a year now and have been impressed by her line of shadows, brushes, and now lip sticks too. On her site, she also has sample sizes of MAC pigments, as well as a variety of NYX products too.

Summer Sephora Haul #1

As you all may have realized, Sephora is my go-to place for all things beauty. Makeup, skincare, name it! I'm lucky (and dangerously) enough to live ONE block away from a Sephora store. While that may sound incredibly convenient and tempting, that's not all. I walk to and from my internship, Monday through Friday, and pass this Sephora store every time. It's amazing I don't break the bank there, but I've resisted even stepping foot in the store...until yesterday, that is.

June Favorites!

It's been a while since my last post, but I promise it's only because I've been busy doing great things and blogging on From Sunshine to the City! I also have been saving money and trying not to spend too much on makeup (even though it's proved to be VERY challenging).

Since my last favorites post in March (I can't believe how long ago that is), there are a few changes! I haven't been switching up my makeup too much since I'm usually in a rush to get to my internship.

From Sunshine to the City

Hello lovely followers,

I'm finally on summer vacation since I am done with my final exams and moved back home to South Florida. As many of you may know from my previous post or my Twitter, I am interning in NYC this summer at an advertising/marketing agency on Park Avenue and living in the city from end of May to beginning of August! Through this life-changing experience, I will be blogging alongside three of my friends (also from Florida, hence the name) of our experience living in the city, interning in the city, and all of the adventures that come our way.

Part 2: Favorite Beauty Gurus

One of my most popular posts was where I covered my favorite beauty gurus whose blogs/YouTube channels I follow every day and are my inspiration for my blog and for my personal makeup purchases! I only featured six in that post, but over time, I have a lot more that I'd like to share with all of you. For now, I'll stick to four, but look forward to a 'Part 3' soon!

Painting the (Hollywood) Town Red: 10 Celeb Examples to Spur You into a Colour Change

Red hair is sexy, fact. This is coming from a proud black-haired girl too! I was possibly around the age of seven when I first watched Who Framed Roger Rabbit with my brother and I remember as clear as day, the first time I ever saw the character of Jessica Rabbit. Sure, with her hourglass figure, she was a knockout; but for me it was her red hair that instantly hit me. Watching it with 25-year-old eyes, it seems the Disney animators were light years ahead of their time: a character with attention-grabbing red hair set in a Veronica Lake style... instant beauty kudos! Thinking about this, I was inspired to write a post about the recent return to red hair; I have listed the stars who I think got it exactly right.

Review: Sigma Brushes

I finally bought my first Sigma brushes! Question is, what was I waiting for? They are as great as everyone says they are. I got individual brushes from various collections (as you can tell, there was a bit of a height difference)!

Review: John Frieda Go Blonder Lightening Spray

I first heard about this product about a month ago on one of my favorite YouTube beauty guru's meganheartsmakeup video. I naturally have dirty blonde that keeps fading darker and darker as I have gotten older. Since end of middle school/beginning of high school, I have been getting highlights done about 3 or 4 times a year. Unfortunately, as any of you blondes are well aware of, highlights are expensive! Especially for me because I have long hair, thick hair, and a LOT of layers of hair. While I always straighten my hair and you wouldn't think that it's thick at all, every single hair dresser comments on how much hair I have. For a partial it's about 60 just imagine a full highlight! I have always liked John Frieda products but have never found a shampoo, conditioner, or spray that I thought actually made my hair lighter or helped to maintain my highlights.

NYC Bucket List

I hope you’re all having a terrific Tuesday :). For a couple weeks now, a few friends and myself have been working on creating the ultimate NYC summer bucket list! We are interns and therefore on a budget too. If YOU have been to NYC, interned in NYC, or live in NYC…I would LOVE if you could share some of your favorite spots or places that you consider a must-see and bucket list worthy. I personally have been to NYC about 7 times with family, friends and for school trips, so I have done the majority of the super touristy activities.

Tag: 10 Little Secrets

This is a tag that many of my favorite beauty bloggers/YouTube gurus have been doing this month. I took on the tag myself and am now tagging all of you to do the same!

Tarte Miracle of Maracuja Skin Smart Collection

I'm so excited for this haul for I absolutely love all Tarte products. For those of you who saw my tweet @trulytwenties, I will soon be posting another haul of my new Sigma brushes! As for the Tarte Cosmetics Miracle of Maracuja Skin Smart Collection, I purchased it off of QVC when they had a one-day special going on about a week ago. It was all over Twitter and one of my favorite beauty gurus, Elle Fowler, had a video reviewing all of the products. I absolutely love Tarte products and considering all that is included, I knew I had to have it. If you put all of the products they give you together, it retails for a value of about $200. However, it was available for purchase on the QVC website for only $60, amazing! I'll explain what comes in the collection and a "first impression" review of each of the products.

REVIEW: Garnier Skin Renew BB Cream

After hearing about the Garnier Skin Renew BB Cream for almost a month now, I finally was able to find my shade in stock to pick up! It was sold out in Light/Medium everywhere I was looking- so frustrating! But, if anything, it proves what a popular drugstore product it is. I finally I found it at CVS!

Spring Break/Beach Beauty

While I go to school in Orlando, unfortunately over 30 minutes away from the beach, I was born and raised in Palm Beach, FL- sunny South Florida! My house is walking distance to the intercoastal and a 10-minute drive to one of my favorite beaches ever- Juno Beach Pier (my picture below from this past December).

My Travel Beauty Bag

While I don’t have the makeup collection that many of my favorite beauty gurus and bloggers have, I still do have more than your ordinary 20-year-old. It’s tough for traveling to narrow it down to my most-used, absolute favorite products to put in my Vera Bradley large cosmetic bag (as seen below).

Favorites: Eye Makeup

This is a continued Favorites post, so I suggest you check out my favorite face products too! I am going to list out each of my favorite eye makeup products by category. These are all of my personal favorites and a few that I have heard rave reviews about and will try once I'm out of the ones I'm currently using! I use my MAC and MUG shadows pretty much everyday, which you can read about in My MAC Palettes post.

Interview Tips: Dress for Success

This post was originally from my intern blog, but I thought I would share it here also as it applies to makeup!

This semester is flying by, for me at least, and that means summer internships are quickly approaching! In my experience, most places who have stated on their own company sites or on search engines are going to begin the interview process at end of February and in March. It is smart to prepare now so if you are busy around the time of an interview, you won't feel the panic that you are not prepared.

Sephora Haul

About a week ago, I picked up some new products that I had been dying to try or simply missed owning. I typically wait a few weeks to buy something I've been wanting to see if that desire to own it sticks with me or not, and thus, worth purchasing or not.

Wednesday Wish list!

I have been wanting to get on a blogging schedule and therefore came up with Wednesday Wish list! While I can't say I am going to have a new wish list every week, I will post at least one a month. My wish list is, you guessed it, the products I wish I had and am dying to try! Since I haven't yet purchased any of these items, I would LOVE to get your feedback if you have tried them and whether or not you liked them, etc.

1. BB Cream

"Blemish Balm" Cream is one of Asia's hottest beauty trends right now. According to various articles, BB creams were originally made in Germany and used for healing laser skin surgery because of it's ability to regenerate the skin by protecting, soothing, and refining. It is also used for scarring, acne, blemishes, SPF, skin brightening and moisturizing. Since then, Asian women decided to use it as a daily beauty product for it's all-around skin benefits, versus using multiple products at the same time. It now has spread it's way around the world and more recently, here to the U.S.
Many popular brands have come out with their own version of BB Creams. Sephora even has their own "BB Cream Collection" page with all the brands they offer. The price generally is pretty expensive for not a ton of product, but if I were to guess, a little goes a LONG way. Not only for it's texture's spreading ability over the skin, but for all that is included in just ONE squirt!
Based on reviews I have seen by fellow beauty bloggers, I am most inclined to begin my experience using BB Cream with the Smashbox or Boscia brand. I personally am young enough (20) to not need Clinique's age defense (while on the other hand, I guess it doesn't hurt to begin using anti-aging products early?) and do not think I would want a tinted cream like Too Faced's BB Cream. Personal preferences I suppose and only a few dollars difference between them all.

2. Laura Mercier Silk Creme Foundation

Described by Sephora as:

"This long-wearing foundation evens out skin tone as it increases skin luminosity and clarity for a radiant glow. The rich, creamy texture glides over the skin effortlessly for perfect application and blendability. Perfect for rosacea and hard to cover pigmentation. Ideal for all skin types, and oil free."

This foundation has been very highly regarded by my Favorite Beauty Gurus! When used in many of their tutorials, it simply looks flawless (not that these women aren't already so gorgeous). The one and only reason I have put off purchasing this is to force myself to finish up the foundations I already have first! Plus, at $42, this is pretty expensive for a foundation too.

3. Tarte Amazonian Clay Foundation

Described by Sephora as:

"Get 12 hours of flawless coverage with this long-wearing, skin-perfecting formula with UVA/UVB SPF 15. It's full coverage with a weightless texture. With a broad range of shades available and a supremely blendable and buildable formula, everyone can achieve skin that looks healthy and natural."

I absolutely love all Tarte products I have tried- from mascara to amazonian blushes to lip stains- and therefore really want to try this too! I love that it has UVA/UVB SPF 15 and do believe the long-wearing feature of the amazonian clay, as I have found it to be true of the blushes. Additionally, I always feel good about purchasing natural products that I know will be good for my sensitive, acne-prone skin.

4. Essie Nail Polish

I love the new spring collection (including a crewed interest (peach), to buy or not to buy (lavender), and tour de finance (fuschia)), as well as mint candy apple (green) and lapiz of luxury (blue). These all seem like great spring and summer shades!

Overall, not sure why I'm craving to own so many face products, but that's just the way it is for my first Wednesday wish list! Have you tried any of these products mentioned above? I'd love to know what you think of them and if they are worth purchasing!

TELL ME: What's on your Wednesday wish list? List in a comment below :)

Eyes: Looks I Love

Hello lovelies,

Confession: I have an absolute obsession with Pinterest. Not only do I love the fashion and home decor ideas, the recipes & DIYs, but also the makeup looks and inspiration! These are some of my favorites that I repinned. I plan to recreate many of these looks, and include blog posts/tutorials on them as well!

Which one is your favorite?

Whatever gold shadow that is- I want it! PERFECT true gold shimmery sparkly gold. Suggestions?

I love the gold and purple combination. Also, I always use a soft brown just above the crease for a softer/less harsh line and an ivory/white in the inner corner and under the brow for highlight.
This frosty green shadow is absolutely gorgeous! It's an uncommon look, but it's stunning and I think will fit well into Spring with mint green being such an on-trend shade.

This is a look I often wear- the combination of pinks and purples with black eyeliner and bold lashes. It looks even more wonderful on those with green eyes- as pictured above. On the color spectrum, purple is one of the most flattering shades to make green eyes stand out even more.

I love this matte, natural look with a hint of smoke and definition to go with a red lip. Simple and classic.

Bold color-block look, but such beautiful colors that surprisingly compliment each other quite well.

This is such a simple look that I am DYING to try. Unfortunately I absolutely cannot seem to find my Urban Decay 24/7 eyeliner pencil in a green color very similar to this! I'm sure NYX has a similar shade but at a lower price that I will buy at Ulta soon!

Fierce smoky cat eye with purple. Yes, I clearly love purple shadow looks! Always flattering and more exciting than brown or gray.

While being a very harsh and strong smoky eye, I wanted to point out how well the black liner defines the eye especially with white right next to it. The black tip in the inner corner narrows the shape of the eye, a common beauty trick I've found from many YouTube makeup tutorial bloggers! That, in combination with a wing on the outer corner, is a fierce look if you can pull it off!

I love how soft yet defining this look is. A well-blended navy crease, satin violet, frosty light baby pink on the inner third, winged liner and curled lashes! Love it.

This icy blue is definitely intense and not an everyday look, but I absolutely LOVE the blue shade with white. Almost like a winter look gone dramatic.

Last but certainly not least, I am IN LOVE with this look! Shimmery brown, light white gold in the inner corner, and green, blue and purple liner with black in the waterline. I'm trying this as soon as I get another green liner- I have a perfect blue and purple and will be sure to do a tutorial/product recommendations!

Feel free to share any suggestions for some of the eyeshadow colors I would love to have, your favorite look, or other ideas from Pinterest that you've found and loved!

I am still new to blogging, so any feedback and support is so greatly appreciated and I promise I will return the favor!
